They say your children will always stay close, but my daughter drifted away. It all started when she married into the Jackson family, a well-to-do clan with an air of superiority. I was left out of holidays, never invited to family gatherings. My heart ached, but I stayed silent.

The sense of loss was profound. Then one day, as I was cleaning out the attic, I stumbled upon a box of old letters hidden beneath dusty blankets. They were all from my daughter — but more importantly, they were all unopened. My dress slipped from my grasp.

"Mom, I tried," the first letter began. Reading the words, I felt an overwhelming mixture of love and betrayal. Why hadn't she sent these to me? Why were they buried in the attic? My husband had turned the corner, eyes widening as he saw me clutch the letters.

"Did you know about this?" I demanded, my voice shaking. He looked down, unable to meet my gaze. "They… didn't want you around," he admitted softly. A cold rage coursed through me. The family who stole my daughter had been more involved than I knew.

As I read more letters, a pattern emerged. There were notes of apologies, desperate pleads for forgiveness, her desire to keep me in her life — all answered only by silence. It was clear they had been intercepted. But by whom?

Determined to find the truth, I approached my daughter at the next family gathering. She looked surprised when she saw me holding the letters. "Mom, where did you find those?" she asked, tears already forming in her eyes.

"In our attic, unopened," I replied, handing her a letter. "Who kept them from us?"

Her eyes turned to her husband and his family, confusion mixing with realization. "This is why you never replied," she said, voice breaking. The Jacksons shifted uncomfortably, but her husband stepped forward.

"We thought it was best," he began, but my daughter cut him off. "No, you decided it was best without me," she cried. Amidst the stunned silence, she turned back to me, her eyes full of remorse. "Mom, I'm so sorry. I never wanted to lose you."

In that moment, the distance between us vanished. We held each other tightly, feeling the weight of those lost years lift. The Jacksons had secrets, but our bond proved stronger. Our relationship, once fractured, began to heal, stronger than ever before.
